Thomas the Train Cake for Caleb

Indeed, every cake tells a story. We will never forget this order.

Caleb's mom messaged me while we were on holiday
in Hong Kong in Nov 2014.
The most memorable thing is that the order was confirmed
on our Baking Bees 3rd Anniversary on 29th Nov 2014! :)

Caleb's birthday falls on Christmas Day, so it seems that it is difficult to get bakers to commit to an order on a major holiday.
I'm a mom of 4, I can understand how important it is to get
that perfect cake for your child!

We used light blue fondant to cover the cake, made train tracks out of fondant and made Caleb's name in colourful letters.
Thomas & Friends logo is printed on edible icing sheet. We even loaned the Thomas toy used to decorate the cake.

As the order was confirmed on our anniversary, we decided to celebrate by giving a 10% discount on the cake.
Instead of telling Caleb's mom up front, we gave her a surprise by packing the refund money into an ang pow (lucky red packet) and passed it to her when she returned the Thomas toy.

A handwritten note accompanied the cash refund.

Happy 3rd birthday, Caleb!

Frozen Design 3 - Frozen Curvy Snowy Top Cake for Cadence

Before we knew it, we were making our 8th Frozen cake! :)

This time, it's for Cadence who was turning 6.
Her lovely mom ordered this cake for her.

A yummy chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream,
draped with light blue fondant and a snowy curvy top,
decorated with a splash of snowflakes in 3 colours.
We also crafted a jumbo number 6 and
used a set of toys to decorate the cake.

Slugterra Cake for Rick

If I had to pick my favourite cake for 2014, this would be the one!

My boys liked watching Slugterra, so I had some impression of the cartoon.
But I didn't know much about the slugs, so I had to get a crash course
(Slugterra 101) from my boys! Hahaha :P
I found the slugs pretty adorable and I was sure
I would enjoying making them from scratch.
For this cake, I made Thresher, Tazerling, Infurnus and Boon Doc
(in order from left to right, on cake).

My favourite slug would have to be Infurnus,
because he reminds me of my 3rd son! ^-^

Main character Eli Shane and the Slugterra logo are printed
on edible icing, and attached to the front of the cake.

Happy 6th Birthday, Rick!

Rilakuma Cupcakes For Felicia

This order came from my ex-colleague's sister's friend.
Her daughter was turning 12 and she loves Rilakuma.

This order was very interesting because I was told not to use any pink at all.
The birthday girl dislikes pink!

The order was for 1 cupcake with a 3D Rilakuma, and 12 cupcakes with 2D fondant Rilakuma, everything on a cakeboard covered with fondant and birthday message on separate strip of fondant.

We were glad to use our new lettering cutters for this order. Aren't they pretty?

Purple the colour of royalty, for Gerlyn

I am really behind in my blogging. But my motto is - better late than never. I have almost 10 months of posts to catch up on, and I vow to do it slowly but surely! ;) Leaving the backlog behind, I'm going to write about my last bake for September 2014 first.

I get a lot of referrals from my friends, lucky me! At end August, I received a Whatsapp message from my pal Kok Seng, telling me that his colleague wanted to order a cake for his daughter. Soon after, Gary send me a message too, with the details for the order.

A 6" chocolate cake, covered with baby pink fondant. Bottom half of the cake had dark purple asymmetrical pieces, a white ribbon bow and a rope divides the cake into 2. The cute lilac giraffe purple spots sits on top of the cake.

The emphasis is that little Gerlyn, is hugely fond of the colour purple. The giraffe topper also had to be purple. My eyes lit up, at the mention of a purple giraffe. I thought it would be such a fun project and I loved making pretty cakes and also cute toppers.

Happy Birthday, little Gerlyn! ^_^

My friend's little daughter is such a sweetie.
A pleasure to make her birthday cake as it is a lot of fun.

She loves unicorns and the colour purple.

I made a 3D unicorn on a purple fondant cake.

Plus a pretty white bow with a dark purple number 7.

This is a medium chocolate cake with a surprise vanilla layer in between.

My neighbour rodered this ake fo her son, Trey.
Incidentally, he is also my 2nd son's schoolmate.

They had a small party at home, hence the cake was just a single Lego block.
A tall rectangular vanilla cake was covered in red fondant.

For decorations, birthday boys provided all the toys used.

Happy 9th birthday, Trey!

Frozen Design 3 - Frozen Curvy Snowy Top Cake for My Niece Emilienne

This was our 5th Frozen cake for the year!
A variation of the 2-tier Frozen Curvy Top design, this time done in single tier.

This is an 8" vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream.

Emilienne was celebrating her 11th birthday and this was my contribution to her birthday party.
