Macaron Rainbow Cake for Joel's Birthday + Our First BIG Macarons Order

My long time friend ordered a small rainbow cake for her brother, Joel's birthday.

Along with the cake, she also wanted some macarons.

The total number of macarons that could fit on top of the cake was 12.

Macarons were of 2 flavours -
vanilla (blue) and strawberry (pink).

As I had to make 2 batches of macarons, I asked my friends if anyone was interested to order some.

At the end, a kind friend bought 2 dozens (12 pcs) of my macarons! Yay! ^_^
This is my first bulk order of macarons.

Peter and Evelyn's 19th Wedding Anniversary

My good friend, Karin, ordered this cake as a gift for her friend's wedding anniversary.

She wanted something simple yet elegant.

For simplicity, I used just light blue fondant and dark blue lettering, for contrast.
For elegance, I used white Baroque-style decorations around the cake.

The end result was a lovely yet edible gift for a couple's 19th wedding anniversary!
Happy 19th anniversary, Peter & Evelyn!

Everything's coming up roses on Mother's Day!

If you have visited my Baking Bees Facebook page,
you will find this picture very familiar.
This is my page banner picture, it has remained unchanged for over 2 years.

I love this picture because I made this cake for my mom.
It shows the amount of effort and time spent on this cake.
Every rose was handmade and left to dry.

Under the fondant, it was a lemon cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.

My mom kept some of the roses!
She really liked them and said they were really pretty.

Happy Mother's Day, Mommi!
Wishing your lots of laughter and happiness always!

Great Gatsby Cake for Phoebe's and Wei Qiang's 21st Birthdays

When I received this order, I was really excited.
This is my first 21st birthday cake!
A fully black cake with gold accents, a string of pearls and a black bow-tie. There was to be a lot of painting to be done, plus extra effort in colouring the fondant black.

The fully assembled cake looked elegant and classy. I draped the string of pearls to the side, for an unconventional look.
For a twist, I decided to make the bow-tie shimmer. It took me some time to think about how to achieve this effect. Doesn't it look nice?
Hope Phoebe and Wei Qiang had the best 21st birthdays possible!
Happy birthday!

Joshua's 12th Birthday Rainbow Surprise Cake with Macarons

Joshua was celebrating his milestone birthday, his mom/my friend Kathryn ordered this cake for his 12th birthday party.

This was a challenging cake in many ways.

First, it was a rainbow cake with Swiss meringue buttercream.
Next, I had to hunt for the extra long Kit Kats big packs of M&Ms.
They not available everywhere, only at selected supermarkets.
Lastly, I had to make macarons, on top of baking a cake!

Knowing how much the boys enjoyed the cake and macs, really brought a smile to my face! ^_^
Happy 12th birthday, Joshua!

Frozen Design 1 - First Frozen Castle Cake For Athena

My neighbour Joan called me and asked me to make a cake for her daughter's birthday party at school. She said it must be Frozen theme and she would send me a reference picture.

The cake had to have 5 spires and snowflakes bursting out from the cake. Joan also ordered a set of original Frozen toys to be placed on the cake.

This cake had a lot of firsts for Baking Bees. It was the first time that we:
1. Used wires as part of the decoration (we had to be very sure that none of the wire will come into contact with the cake and contaminate it)
2. Made spires and attached them to the cake and had to ensure that they would remain standing
3. Made a cobblestone path with existing tools

I am glad to say that we did it! ^_^

Although the decorations took us a much longer time than expected, it was well worth the effort when we received these pictures of Athena.

The smile on her face is priceless!

This sweet girl came up to my place and personally said thank you to me after the party.

Thanks for letting us make the Frozen Castle Cake, Joan!
