Caden is 5!

Welcoming 2016 with a blast!
Happy New Year, everyone!
May our days be happy & full of surprises!

Our first cake for 2016, is for the lady (my long-time good friend Regina) who literally for launched Baking Bees 4 years ago. Immense pleasure to bake again for her handsome little prince, Caden.

I made Caden's 1st birthday cupcakes for the goody bags in 2012!
Makes me very happy to be able to bake for him again.

This is the biggest rainbow cake we have made to date, a 10" square cake.
This is also our first naked rainbow cake!

Decoration is a Slugterra picture that was printed on edible icing sheet.
Borders have simple piped flowers, topped with colourful M&Ms.

Happy 5th Birthday, Caden! May the Lord's blessings be upon you always!

Perle's Doc McStuffins Cake for 11th Birthday

My friend Patsy's daughter was celebrating her birthday at the studentcare in school.
Unfortunately, it was the last birthday party allowed in the premises, so Perle has the honour of hosting the last celebration and the girls were looking forward to the party.

A 2-tier small and medium chocolate cakes, covered in fondant.
We made the cute pink stethoscope, white jacket and striped blouse, and buttons.
As a touch of Disney magic, we used Disney lettering too!

Happy 11th birthday, Perle!

Hollywood Birthday Cake for Darren

We were asked to make this very special cake by a friend's friend, for her nephew's 21st birthday.

This cake has a lot of details and we spent a lot of time preparing each of the elements
with care and technical competence.
We used chocolate cake for each film reel, and used food safe edible luster dust
to create realistic metal surfaces.
Popcorn is made piece by piece, complete with a coating of "butter".
Clapperboard has dainty lettering to spell the birthday message and name.

Many hours went into it's creation and we are so proud of this cake!

Frozen Design 4 - Frozen Rainbow Rosette Cake for Gwyen

If you know the Queen Bee, you will know that she loves piping!
Yes, that's me! :)

Once in a while, I will get a request for a buttercream cake. I get very excited!
I do love piping work, it refreshes my skills and I love how I can create pretty swirls and flowers with every stroke.

My favourite piped item is the swirl rosette, and I call it
the Baking Bees Perfect Swirl.
When I get a order for a rosette cake, my eyes will light up
and there's almost a happy dance! ^-^
This rosette cake is our 7th Frozen cake order.

My friend ordered this cake for her daughter Gwyen, this is the 2nd year
I'm making a birthday cake for her.
It's always a pleasure to see the young ones growing up.

My friend used her own toys, which she placed on the fondant plate.
The happy birthday princess with her cake!

Happy 6th birthday, Gywen! :)

Starry Cake for Extended Family Birthday Celebrations over Chinese New Year 2014

In my large extended family, we have a few birthdays in January and February every year.
My uncle, 2 aunts, sister and son, to be exact.

My mom requested for a buttercream cake, so we can all celebrate together over Chinese New Year.

Such a joy to see the young and old, all enjoying my cake!
Great suggestion, mommi! ^_^

Thomas the Train Cake for Caleb

Indeed, every cake tells a story. We will never forget this order.

Caleb's mom messaged me while we were on holiday
in Hong Kong in Nov 2014.
The most memorable thing is that the order was confirmed
on our Baking Bees 3rd Anniversary on 29th Nov 2014! :)

Caleb's birthday falls on Christmas Day, so it seems that it is difficult to get bakers to commit to an order on a major holiday.
I'm a mom of 4, I can understand how important it is to get
that perfect cake for your child!

We used light blue fondant to cover the cake, made train tracks out of fondant and made Caleb's name in colourful letters.
Thomas & Friends logo is printed on edible icing sheet. We even loaned the Thomas toy used to decorate the cake.

As the order was confirmed on our anniversary, we decided to celebrate by giving a 10% discount on the cake.
Instead of telling Caleb's mom up front, we gave her a surprise by packing the refund money into an ang pow (lucky red packet) and passed it to her when she returned the Thomas toy.

A handwritten note accompanied the cash refund.

Happy 3rd birthday, Caleb!
