New Year Cupcakes

I just completed 15 pcs of vanilla cupcakes, decorated with a single layer swirl (as my friend prefers less icing) and Fondant letters spelling "HAPPY NEW YEAR".

I hope these little deserts bring extra joy to the party and may there be lots of smiles too ;)

Reuniting With An Old Friend

My old friend ordered 15 cupcakes to be collected this Sat, on New Year's Eve. She contacted me through Facebook and we finalized the details 2 days ago.

God works in miraculous ways :) I knew she worked at the airport, so when we were there this afternoon, I found a shop which looked familiar from her FB photos. As I walked towards the carpark as we were leaving, walking past the shop, I saw my old friend in front of me!

We are both very happy to see each other again, should have been 13-14 years!

Lynn's cupcakes will be vanilla flavour with yellow single swirl/rosette icing and sprinkles + Fondant letters. Actual design will be revealed on Sat when I post the photos ;)

Very Special Birthday Cupcakes

I'm meeting old friends and sworn siblings this New Year's eve,
we will be having a potluck dinner.

At the same time, we will also be celebrating the birthdays of the January babies among us :)

To make something special and different, I shall attempt to make 24 dark chocolate cupcakes topped and decorated with my homemade Fondant.

4 Days To Christmas

It's Wednesday! :) Christmas draws near!

I will be making half a batch of cupcakes on Thursday morning for my dear colleagues and my lovely neighbour.

I will try to freeze a couple, just to test how they would taste like upon thawing.

Friday night I'll be making a full batch to fill an order of 20 and also for my family.

Busy as a bee, I always say and enjoying it!

Received my first Christmas present for this year!

A very lovely personalized apron with my name and one of my bakeries' names -

Christmas Cupcakes Galore

I made 36 Christmas cupcakes today plus a few more since it is Brendan's birthday.
Maybe it's a very busy day today, I totally missed out on taking pictures of the cupcakes today!

They had white buttercream icing with red + green sprinkles, topped with a red or green Fondant star.

I'll be making more of the same from Thursday, to fill an order and to bring to Christmas parties.

Happy Birthday BB! :)

Cupcakes for Petopia

Friends at Petopia received a gift from their customer and friend Cynthia today.
Cynthia is a very good friend of mine (much like an elder sister to me) and she wanted me to make cupcakes in Petopia corporate colours.

I was a little apprehensive initially, as the colour was unique, a little like teal.
Gel colours are tricky to mix and the result is often quite different from what you had in mind.
I slept on it and though over it calmly.
I had primary colours on hand and also brown and black.

I mixed a small batch and was surprised that it was quite close in colour.
I'm really glad that everything turn out well!
20 cupcakes delivered to Petopia and a special cupcake with a little red star for Marcus!

Christmas Cupcakes

On Friday, I made the first batch of Christmas cupcakes as gifts :)

I will be making several more batches in the coming days for friends, colleagues, and family.

Baking Bees Very Own Fondant

I managed to make my own Fondant :)

Although it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be but I succeeded! I cut tons of stars tonight, from both store-bought and homemade Fondant. The pretty little stars will be used to decorate my Christmas themed cupcakes this coming weekend.

I'm drying them out tonight and will check on how they fare tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Busy As A Bee!

I was looking at the calendar and I'm thrilled that I'll be fully packed from now, all the way until Chinese New Year which falls on 23rd & 24th Jan next year. Busy baking for family, relatives, friends and colleagues.

I must get down to design an auspicious picture for my cakes and cupcakes for Chinese New Year. It's going to be fun!

This week I'm going to try to make my own Fondant! I'm hoping that it'll be a breeze ;)

A Soccer Ball And More!

When I offered to make a birthday cake for my friend's 2 sons, I was actually surprised that she accepted since I am a novice who is just starting out. Her boys are 6 and 11, the younger boy is my 2nd son's best friend at Marymount Kindergarten.

Although she liked the giant cupcake cake, but surely I should make something more fun for them. She was open to any designs I had in mind and I finally settled on a soccer ball! Based on the number of guests, a birthday cake was insufficient so I added 34 cupcakes. I made fondant letters to spell out "HAPPY BIRTHDAY GERALD GLENDON" for the cupcakes and also made a few with pastel marshmallow flowers for girls at the party.

Sincere thanks to Beatrice for trusting me! ;)

Blades of grass, aren't they cute?

My First Decorated Cake - Lesson 2 of Course 1

Along the way, after my second lesson in Course 1,
I had to decorate a cake with a piped giant cupcake on the top.
I had to first ice a cake at home and bring it to class.
For some strange reason, my icing just wouldn't set. It just remained wet and creamy. Sigh.

At class on 4th Nov Friday, we had to prepare our piping bags and pipe the giant cupcake.
It was truly very enjoyable to decorate your own cake, the sense of fulfilment is indescribable.
I have always liked all things colourful and I tried to make my design as colourful as possible.

Happy Birthday Aaron!

It was such a happy cake that looking at it made me smile.

As our Love Circle 353 group was going to celebrate Aaron's birthday on Saturday, I kept the cake and presented it to him.

29th Nov - A Wonderful Day

A First to Remember Forever!

I still remember this day vividly :)

I was busy from late morning, started with baking my two 8-inch cakes, so that I could assemble my final cake for my last Gum Paste and Fondant class.

I scooped some batter out and fill 6 cupcake cases, thinking that my 3 boys and I could have them for tea-break that afternoon. I had some spare icing in the fridge and I decorated them. The boys chose dinosaur sprinkles.

Aren't the dinosaurs just so cute? :)

This day was significant because my boys said my cupcakes were so yummy, and also because minutes after posting these photos on Facebook, I had friends asking me to bake for them.

On this day, my bakery story has begun.........

Incredible learning journey

In the month of Nov, I embarked on something which I have been longing to do but have never gotten round to doing it.

I signed up for 2 cake decorating classes in Nov, learning the Wilton's method of decorating. I completed Course 1 - Basic Decorating and also Course 3 - Gum Paste and Fondant. As at 30th Nov 2011, I am a certified Wilton Decorator.

Truth be told, the courses weren't all play although they were really fun as there were so many new things to learn every lesson. But the hard part was having to go home and practice what you've learn in class for just 2 days before your next class. The hardest part would be the final cake which we have to complete by the 4th lesson of each course and it had to pass our instructor's criteria before we were handed our certificates.

My final cake for Wilton Course 1.
4 Lilac Roses with Leaves, and Shell Borders.

My final cake for Wilton Course 3.
Blue Fondant-covered base with Yellow Fondant-covered Cake,
pretty Daisies with Leaves and dainty Lace Border.
This cake was made for my mom.

Cupcakes and More

It's 2am and I'm searching for cupcake boxes online. I found a few pretty ones :)

There are really so many interesting things on the internet. I just found out, quite by accident, that there is also a Derbyshire Road at Daytona Beach, Florida!
