Dora Birthday Cake for Alexa

Dora the Explorer

Stephanie wanted me to make a Dora Cake for her little girl's birthday.

Perhaps one day, I would sit down and experiment with modelling fondant figurines but it would take time and lots of practice first. Time wasn't on my side, so I asked Stephanie if she could get some small Dora figurines so I could place them on the cake.

I decided on a garden theme since Dora was always exploring and on a quest.

Little Alexa likes colours, so I made the message in rainbow colours. They are so bright and cheery!

To add some pretty pastel colours, I used twisty marshmallow for the border.

Keeping in mind that the cake is a for little girl, the butterflies and flowers were in pink and white.

The Dora cake is my first 10" Square cake order and I am delighted that it was successful!
^_^

Behind the scenes, there were a lot of prep work - cutting all the flowers, butterflies and letters, as well as baking the cake. Final step was to roll out a massive piece of fondant and cover the entire cake! That was the biggest challenge.

Black Forest Cupcakes for Brandon

I received an order for Blackforest Cupcakes. I have never made them before. How should I do them?

After some discussions with Adeline, we settled on a chocolate cupcake with a dark cherry centre.

She requested for minimal icing and red sprinkles.

I was happy to oblige, but was concerned that the rosette would not look as good.

I loved making the icing rosettes. They loved good even when they had to be smaller.

The completed cupcakes for Brandon's 12th birthday ^_^

Blackforest was the only flavour cake that the birthday boy loved! I am so glad to be able to be part of the celebration through my bakes.

Many thanks to Adeline for mentioning me on the post on Brandon's birthday party on The Accidental Mom Blogger.

Pink Ribbon Cookies

Pink Ribbon Galore!

Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For many years, I've made it a personal mission to sell the Pink Ribbon pins at my office. I sincerely hoped that each buyer would think about the importance of self-examinations and mammograms.

However, in 2012, I decided to take a break from selling pins.

Instead I made tons and tons of pink ribbon cookies! ^_^

My sister wanted me to make 150 pink ribbon cookies as she wanted to give tokens of appreciation for the people who helped to organised activities for breast cancer awareness month.

Each small ziplock bag contains 2 cookies with pink royal icing and  pink sprinkles.

Pretty?

When assembled, the message was

Aren't they pretty? ^_^
I hope the newly-weds, family and friends enjoyed them!

Human Society of Singapore is 1

Human Society of Singapore turned 1
and I have the honour of baking the cupcakes to celebrate their 1st birthday! ^_^

50 chocolate and vanilla cupcakes in green icing with message tags with
"Thank You" and "Happy 1st Birthday HSS".

I usually bake the cakes the night before and decorate them before they are picked up.

On this particularly occasion, I caught a little bunny who sneaked out in the middle of the night, attracted by the delightful aroma of freshly baked cupcakes............

See Baby D in action below:

In the middle of the night, guess who came to check out the yummy cupcakes?

Can I have some please?

One, two, three, four...... erm how many are there anyway?

50, my dear Baby D! ^_^

Oooohhhh yummy! He seemed to say....

Rosette Cake For My Good Friends

Rosette Cake

I saw picture of this cake several times on the internet.
I was really attracted to it and decided that one day I will make it.
It looked so pretty and I really loved it!

My sworn sister Su Lin and my very good friend Pui Yee always celebrated
their birthdays together in Aug.
I decided to make a rosette cake to surprise them. I brought it to the office in the morning,
and later carried it to our dinner venue Cafe Iguana.

I made an 8" round cake and covered it in purple rosettes.

Top view of the pretty Rosette Cake. Do you like it? :D

Cupcakes For All The Teachers Of My Nephew And Niece

After the exams, my sister wanted me to bake some cupcakes for all the teachers who taught my nephew and niece who were graduating from Henry Park Primary School and Gracefield Kindergarten.

The plan for to make 4-piece cupcake gift box for each teacher who taught them for 12 years and 4 years respectively.

I spent some time thinking about the designs for the 4 cupcakes. As there were male teachers, the colour theme should not be too sweet and pretty.

My sister's only request was that one of the cupcakes must have a big "J" and another must have a message tag that says "Thank You".

At the end, I settled for bright and vibrant colours.

Cupcake 1 - a red J on yellow icing rosette as their names are Jonathan and Joanne.
Cupcake 2 - a small blossom on orange icing rosette
Cupcake 3 - a big green star to represent the teacher and a little purple star the student, on
                      yellow icing rosette
Cupcake 4 - orange icing rosette with a blue Thank You tag

This is the end product! :)

This is by far my biggest order, a total of 190 cupcakes, delivered separately in 2 batches.

Thank You, Jie!
Appreciate your support and encouragement! ^_^
